Current Status of the King’s Head, Chitterne

On 22 December 2025, the Chitterne Community Pub Group (CCPG) took ownership of the King’s Head. With the support of an exceptional team of village volunteers, we immediately began a major programme of refurbishment. Together, we installed new wood burners, upgraded the kitchen appliances, laid new carpets, fitted a new kitchen in the tenant’s flat, and redecorated the public rooms to restore the building and prepare it for a new chapter.

The King’s Head reopened in June 2025 under the stewardship of our new tenants, Nick and Jo White, whose hard work, professionalism, and commitment have been central to the pub’s success. Under their leadership, the King’s Head has quickly become a classic country pub known for great food, excellent beer, and a warm welcome. Its reputation has grown steadily, attracting visitors from across the country as well as passers‑by discovering a proper village pub with genuine character.

The pub has also created valuable employment opportunities for young people in the village and for nearby residents — an important additional benefit of having a thriving community business at the heart of Chitterne.

The King’s Head now plays a key role in village life, supporting major events such as the Imber Bus Day, Morris dancing, and the Boxing Day hunt, alongside regular pub quizzes, lunches, and community gatherings.

Its success has attracted regular mentions in local and regional news, reflecting both the strength of the pub’s revival and the growing national interest in community‑owned pubs. The King’s Head is now recognised as one of the best examples of a successful community project, demonstrating what a village can achieve when it works together with a clear vision and committed leadership.

We are proud that the King’s Head has been added to CAMRA’s Good Beer Guide, recognising the consistently high quality of its beer and the dedication of Nick, Jo, and the whole team.
